GST Effects On Indian Cars

GST Effect

All multiple state and centre taxes like VAT, CST, excise, NCCD, infra Cess, etc have been replaced by the GST now. The govt. of India has implemented the Goods and Service Tax from 1st July 2017, and it has brought a big smile on the faces of new car buyers. In most part of our country, all cars have become more affordable than before. We would like to remind you that from 1 July, all cars were taxed at a base rate of 28% and were levied an additional Cess 1% 3% or 15% as per dimensions, engine size and ground clearance of the cars.

On the other hand there are some increases in car insurance costs, car loan EMIs, costs of car roadside assistance services, car services, car rescue services, car towing services, emergency car breakdown service, car breakdown services and breakdown recovery insurance due to current revision in service tax from 15% to 18%. After GST there was a concern that cars from the small and mid-size segment were going to cost slightly more but we have seen that cars belonging to these segments have either came down or remained as is.
